If you love to finish a fine meal out with a cup of espresso you may be happy to find out there is a method of making this beverage at home that does not include purchasing a an expensive espresso station. Stovetop espresso is similar in taste and quality to what you get out at a fine restaurant without the need to buy an expensive machine.

Stovetop espresso is done in a pot that closely resembles the old stove top coffee pot that was commonly used by the ranchers when out on the range. These coffee makers are typically manufactured from high quality stainless steel. There are several different styles of these devices, but they all work basically the same way. These pots have been in use since the creation of espresso in the early 1900s.

Making stovetop espresso is relatively simple and only takes a few minutes. Naturally you will need a stove top espresso maker, but the style or size will not matter. The first step calls for cold water to be placed into the pot. Since the quality of the espresso can only be as good as the quality of the water it is a good idea to use filtered or distilled water rather than tap water.

Fill the base of the unit with water till the level of the water is equal with the safety valve. The next step is to insert the filter into the espresso maker and place one heaping teaspoon of coffee into the filter for each 5 ounces of water. The incorrect amount of water will make the coffee either to weak or too strong. For this reason it is a good idea to measure how much water is being placed into the pot.

Once you have the filter disk and the gasket set into place then you need to screw the two sections onto each other and tighten. It is important to double check that the two sections are tightly attached. You are now ready to place the pot onto the top of the stove and turn the burner on to low heat.

The coffee will begin to flow to the top of the pot and then after about 5 minutes the pot will begin to sputter. When the sputtering begins you will know that the espresso is ready to be enjoyed. You will be surprised the quality of the stovetop espresso. There are several suppliers of quality espresso grounds that are intended for this use.
