Description

The Bodum Pavina Double Wall Shot Glass is 2.5 ounces in size and can be used for cold or warm beverages. Its unique design is appealing to the eye when filled with your favorite beverage. With its double layer of borosilicate glass it appears as though the liquid is 'floating' within the glass. They will not sweat when filled with a cold beverage, so you will not have to use a coaster. The double wall creates a thermal effect, helping to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot for longer periods of time. These mouth blown glasses are an exciting product for any home, restaurant, or cafe and they are a definite conversation piece. Bodum’s insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass traditionally used to make scientific lab glass. Stronger than traditional “soda-lime” glass, borosilicate can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Borosilicate glass substitutes boron oxide in place of the soda and lime used in everyday glassware. The boron oxide acts as the glue holding the silicate together. Due to small size of boron particles, the glass is held together tighter, resulting in a stronger, lighter glass. Borosilicate glass doesn’t need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong due to the bonding capability boron oxide. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is resistant to temperature swings, In addition to being dishwasher safe borosilicate will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 1,000 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it.

At last, a glass that won't burn or freeze your hand. Two walls of clear glass with an air layer in-between not only keep drinks cold--or hot--but prevent condensation from forming on the outside. So, an ice-cold shot of vodka or a steamy espresso feels just right, no matter the temperature. And coasters won't be needed, either. Winner of the prestigious European iF Design Award, the mouth-blown Pavina glass exhibits Bodum's flair for the modern. Each two-ounce glass curves beguilingly and fits the palm just right. Mouth-blown of borosilicate glass, which is quite a bit thinner yet much more durable than regular glass, the two Pavina glasses in this set are safe for both the microwave and dishwasher, resist temperature swings, and resist scratching and dulling. Care should be taken when placing ice cubes in an empty glass, and metal spoons for stirring are discouraged. --Ann Bieri Editor's Note: Because each glass is mouth-blown, each one may have slight differences in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. You should also avoid using metal spoons or placing the glass into a crowded dishwasher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful little shot glasses that are surprisingly durable!, December 28, 2009

This review is from: Bodum Pavina 2.5-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Glasses (Espresso/Shot), Set of 2 (Kitchen)
I have a few other Bodum products (my one-cup french press is a personal favorite) and thought I'd give these glasses a try. I recently spent 2 weeks in Italy and upon tasting my "regular" coffee I made at home I was heartbroken. I went on a hunt for decent performing, affordable espresso / cappuccino gear to satisfy my longing. Enough of the silly background! 🙂

Why these glasses:
One thing important to keeping as much flavor in your caffe is heat. This involves preheating your cups with hot water or a warming tray before filling them with your favorite drink. I was finding that I had to drink my shots a bit faster than I wanted with a "normal" demitasse. I saw these glasses and thought I would give them a try - I thought the double wall would be good for holding in more heat.

Worries / initial impression:
The only worry I had about these before I ordered was how fragile the picture makes them look. I am not a graceful person by any means and I... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cup but slightly irregular, March 11, 2017

This review is from: Bodum Pavina 2.5-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Glasses (Espresso/Shot), Set of 2 (Kitchen)
I bought these to replace broken pavina cups I bought 6 years ago. The espresso size is great. Very sturdy and keeps tea/espresso piping hot. I had mine a long time and somebody dropped mine ( they did not break during washing or in the dish washer)

The new ones seem just as sturdy. None broke after 4 months.

Only issue is that these seem considerably more irregular than my original 4 I bought in 2010. I know these are hand blown glass, but the nice price might reflect irregular glassware. It's not that noticeable when you serve a beverage only when they are stacked in the cupboard!

I bought these on a whim, as part of a Lightning Deal, and was not disappointed upon their arrival. I LOVE their aesthetics!!! These awesome little glasses are great for sipping iced shots, because the insulation doesn't allow them to lose their cool! As well, hot shots are also enjoyable, since the insulation keeps things toasty, too!

These are well-constructed, using borosilicate glass, and clean up very nicely either washing by hand or placing (gently, of course) in the top rack of the dishwasher. While many other reviewers appear to have had problems with the silicone seal on the bottom of the glass, which allows for added expansion and contraction of the insulating air between the glass walls, I have not seen any liquid between the glass walls, nor had any problems with the silicone seals becoming dislodged, with multiple washings both by hand and in the dishwasher. As well, I haven't experienced any chipping or cracking of my glasses.

I enjoy the... Read more
