5.0 out of 5 stars Style AND Substance - A GREAT Coffeemaker, April 3, 2007

I have had this machine since February and use it nearly every day. This is definitely one of the best coffeemakers I have ever owned, and I haven't had one single problem with it.

When I was deciding whether or not to buy it, some of the negative reviews had me a little skeptical. But I am SO glad that I took a chance. It was absolutely worth it for me.

I honestly don't see how some of the reviewers have had some of the problems that they have. Reviewer 'Joan of Arc' seemed to have quite a bit of leakage problems. It must have been a defective machine, because ours hasn't leaked one time -- not even a little drop. I'll go over a few of the issues she and some others had:

- The removable water reservoir (or "bucket" as she called it) for the coffeemaker is easy to remove and replace. If you don't want to take it out to fill it with water, just pour water into it. It is marked clearly and is easy to read even when stationed on the machine. No... Read more

I've mainly used this several times for making coffee as I'm unsure of how to make espresso (yet). I've noticed that the coffee tastes really good out of this unit, I know there's some that might say that it has a strange plastic taste to it I have not encountered that at all since owning this. Very easy to clean, very easy to get it up and running right out of the box.

I do have to say the instruction manual if you need it might seem a little ambiguous with a couple of the instructions, just takes a little bit of thinking to understand some of the operations of it. I would highly recommend that you pay special attention to the instructions on making espresso if you haven't done so before as you can quickly burn yourself if you try to clean the espresso portion of the machine immediately after making espresso. Let the espresso steam dissipate for a good while before trying to clean up on it to avoid any inadvertent steam discharges that might burn you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great machine!, February 11, 2011

This machine takes a little bit of practice to get down the operations (honestly, after one use of trial & error....I "got it")....I had to figure out that there are TWO SEPERATE power switches...I was brewing water (haha) AND espresso and didn't know what I was doing wrong....but I figured it out. And YES, I read the instructions! 🙂 Still a little complicated...but not bad. Like I said, I figured it out after one usage. The frother works GREAT-the coffee brews a little slow, but if that's what it take to make good coffee, then you aren't going to hear a complaint from me. Also...it's well-built and fun to use. 🙂 In other words...It's STAYING AT MY HOUSE! ;-D

Maybe I just got a rare defective machine, but this coffee maker is the worst coffee maker I have ever purchased and overall a worthless piece of cr*p. From Day One it has leaked EVERYWHERE, every time I try to use it, it leaks all over the counter, all over the floor, water not merely leaks out from everywhere, it POURS out from the bottom and the sides. The design externally is nice — it is a fairly compact nice size and looks very nice. However I don’t care how cute it is if if DOESN’T WORK. It also has some bizarre design features such as this ultra-weird removable BUCKET that you have to fill with water for the coffee maker, and this bizarre “showerhead” feature over the filter basket, which if you don’t swivel it into position each and every time, will pour further water all over the place. Also, it is very easy to forget to put the first lid on the espresso machine before covering it with the second lid, which could result in some further disaster. Overall, I rate this 5 stars for external frontal appearance and 0 for overall design. It is possible I got a fluke defective one but even if it worked, I find the internal design of it bizarre and convoluted. The only decent affordable coffee maker in my opinion is (was) the Braun, but that was before they started making them in Mexico and now those are cr*p too.

The Mr Coffee 3 in 1 21, seems better than the Krups 1500, I am confused, Krups should be better, my krups just broke after 12 yars of nearly daily use. what do you think.

Being compact, this is ideal for a small kitchen. Though I have had slightly better coffee makers, this is a perfect unit for a beginner barista. Basic operation is straight forward and can be adapted as you learn the techniques. With proper care it should perform well for a long time. As with any culinary undertaking it takes practice and good ingredients to make an excellent product. I’ve discovered a couple tricks that have improved the quality of my cappuccino a lot since I first gave it a go a month ago. Fine tuning the machine operation beyond the instructions in the booklet was key. First of all,I got rid of the rubber frothing aid tip cover-it was not helpfull.I fill the tank to a quarter inch below the bar that goes across the opening and seal, turn the dial to “steam” until water stops spitting out of the frothing tube (this gets the water temperature a bit higher for brewing and produces an espresso with a trace of caramel froth around the rim),turn the machine off, attach the brew basket with prepared grind, turn on and brew espresso. Then immediately return dial to steam and let it hiss until its pure hot steam-almost invisible. With milk in a metal frothing pitcher(an essential accessory)held in the palm of your hand, emerse the tip just under the surface of the milk, turn the steam back on and inject steam until you hear the pitch change and the heat on the bottom of the pitcher begins to get uncomforable, insert the tip a bit deeper into the milk for a couple seconds then shut off. Appart from that, getting the right coffee is important and a matter of taste and getting the grind just right is a trick too(a wee bit more fine than salt I find). Most of all its fun!

This is the worst coffee maker I have ever owned! The plastic parts broke within a month and the esspresso maker didn’t work. Don’t waste your money on this machine!! Look elsewhere. This is now on the garage sale table.

I love the fact that I can make expresso for me and coffee for when I have guests. I have owned this for almost 2 months and I use it everyday in some capacity. This is a surefire way to cut costs on buying those expensive coffee drinks by making them at home.
