Description

Imagine a cup of your favorite espresso, cappuccino or latte - hot, rich, fresh and flavorful- anytime you want it. The stainless steel Cuisinart Espresso Maker is the real thing and looks like the professional it is. Make espresso in your own kitchen, then use the stainless steam nozzle and frothing cup to turn it into cappuccino or latte. You can even heat the cups on the warming plate on top-just like the pros! 15 bars of pressure guarantee perfect results! From the Manufacturer The Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Maker The Cuisinart EM-100 espresso maker Cuisinart lets you prepare gourmet quality espresso at home! With a system that allows you to pre-select serving size, 15 bars of pressure for maximum flavor and the option of using ground espresso or pods, you're in control. A separate steam function and stainless steel nozzle make it easy to froth milk for cappuccinos and smooth lattes. With a removable drip tray and cover, and a filter holder with a locking mechanism clean up is quick and easy. The Quest for a Perfect Espresso It is generally agreed that there are four basic elements critical to the perfect cup: Element 1: WATER When brewing espresso, make sure the water flows through the filter at the correct pace. The water flow can be adjusted by varying the pressure with which the coffee is taped in the filter or by altering the grind of coffee. If the speed of the water is slow the coffee will be over extracted and will be very dark and bitter, with a spotted and uneven creme (froth) on the top. If the speed of the water flow is too fast, the coffee will be under-extracted and the supreme flavor will not develop. The coffee will be diluted and there will be an inadequate amount of crème on the top. Element 2: COFFEE While the bulk of the liquid is water, all of the flavor should be from the coffee. To achieve the same great quality of coffee you receive at a cafe, you need to use the same quality beans. If you choose to grind your own beans, buy the beans fresh and whole, only about a two week supply at a time for maximum freshness. Once the coffee bean is broken, its flavor degrades very quickly. If it is not practical to buy smaller supplies, we recommend you separate larger amounts of beans and store them in airtight containers in a cool, dry area. They should not be kept for longer than 1 month as flavor will diminish. Do not refrigerate or freeze coffee beans. Element 3: GRIND The grind of the coffee is critical for proper flavor extraction. If using a pre-ground coffee, be sure to purchase an espresso grind that is specifically for espresso/cappuccino machines. If the grind is too fine, over extraction and bitterness will occur with a spotted and uneven crema on top. If the grind is too coarse, the water will pass through too rapidly and there will be an inadequate amount of crema on the top of the espresso. Element 4: TAMPING THE COFFEE GROUNDS If you choose to use ground espresso instead of pods, tamping the coffee is a very important part of the coffee making process. Use the scoop supplied to fill the filter basket, then using the tamping tool, tamp down the grounds with moderate pressure. Add more coffee and tamp again if necessary to bring coffee to level. Do not overfill the filter basket. The ground coffee should be tamped with moderate pressure. If the coffee is not tamped securely, there is a chance the water will flow through the coffee to rapidly and the coffee will be under-extracted. Note: if the coffee is tamped too firmly, the water will flow through the coffee too slowly and the coffee will be over-extracted. The combination coffee scoop/tamping tool. Features and Benefits Cup warming plate. Multi-function knob. Water reservoir lid Removable 53-ounce water reservoir Large cup warming plate 15-bar pump Heating light: Will illuminate indicating that espresso machine is adjusting the temperature of the heating system. Steam/Hot water knob: To use the hot water function, the Steam/Hot Water Knob must be turned the 'double drip' setting. Function knob: Three settings - steam, hot water, make coffee. Portafilter holder: Can be used with ground or pod espresso. Has two positions, lock and unlock, for ease of cleaning. Brew head: For easy fit of the portafilter holder. Commercial steam wand: Use to steam milk for cappuccinos and lattes. Removable drip tray: Removable drip tray with grate. Cleaning pins: Used to clean any excess milk that gets stuck inside the steam wand or any coffee particles that get stuck inside the filter basket. Stainless frothing pitcher: Used for steaming milk for cappuccinos and lattes. Measuring scoop/tamping tool: Use one side as a coffee scoop and the other to compact the coffee grounds in the filter basket prior to brewing. Filter baskets: Use the one cup filter for a single espresso and the two cup filter basket for the double espresso, and the pod filter basket for espresso pods. Guide to the Perfect Espresso You may want to preheat the cups by filling them with hot water; this will help preserve the crema of the espresso. Set the cups aside. Select the appropriate filter basket and insert it in the portafilter handle. Using the measuring scoop place finely ground coffee in the filter basket holder. Use one scoop for one cup and two scoops for two cups, or place espresso pod into filter basket holder. Rest the portafilter handle with the filter basket in position on the countertop. Using the tamping tool, apply moderate packing pressure. Add more coffee and tamp again if necessary to bring coffee to level. Brush any excess grounds form around the edge of the filter basket. Secure the portafilter holder onto the brew head. Check to see if the espresso machine is ready for use. Remember that if the heating light is on, the espresso machine is still adjusting the temperature of the heating system. Turn the function knob clockwise to the picture of the cup espresso setting to start the pour and turn it back to the off position to stop. Check the espresso pour and serve immediately. Milk steaming wand. Guide to Milk Texturing Milk texturing is the steaming of milk. The steam does two things: it heats the milk and mixes air with the milk to form a creamy texture. As with learning to make an espresso, perfecting the art of milk texturing takes time and practice. Easy to follow steps are outlined in the Instruction Booklet. Using the Hot Water Function When using the hot water function make sure that the steam/hot water knob is in the double drip hot water setting. Place the cup or container under the steam/hot water nozzle and turn the function knob to the steam/hot water setting. Once you have dispensed the required amount, stop the hot water by turning the function knob to the off position. Remove the cup or container and swing the steam/hot water wand over the drip tray to catch any drips of water.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great machine for the price, highly recommendabl!, March 16, 2015

This review is from: Conair Cuisinart EM-100 1.66 Quart Stainless Steel Espresso Maker (Kitchen)
This has been a great purchase for our family. We've learned how to eliminate the daily trips to starbucks ($25 a day) and have saved hundreds since purchasing this machine as a result.

The only reason I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it is much noisier than expected, which we are getting used to and don't mind as much as we did when it arrived. It also has a great tutorial dvd that comes with to teach you how to use the machine and make a handful of the most common espresso beverages. The DVD explains everything except for how long to run the espresso when brewing a shot, so you will have to play with it and figure that part out but other than those to 2 cons, the pros out weigh those greatly.

Now that we've gotten comfortable with the functions on our new espresso machine we are as happy as could be!

We would recommend this to anyone who loves espressos!

This review is from: Conair Cuisinart EM-100 1.66 Quart Stainless Steel Espresso Maker (Kitchen)
I purchased this machine 3/2011. I thought it was failing, but it turns out that I was running it on the steam setting, oopps. Anyway, I started looking to purchase a new one. Probably another one of these. A less than 4 star rating is certainly not deserved. Mine has been running like a champ for almost 5 years and I have hard well water and probably don't clean it as often as one should. I paid less than $120 so I didn't expect it to last at all. The delonghi I had before died in less than two years. With that said when you fill the tank it does tend to spill out the bottom a bit initially.... so you may end up with some water on your counter. It is also a little noisy. Big deal. So to all the poor reviews/reviewers.... if thats a deal breaker go buy a expensive machine. Although I think you may still have problems. If the grind is too fine or you tamp it down too much, yes the machine may struggle, but come on people. I believe most of the poor reviews for this espresso maker are... Read more

Of saving loads of money. No more paying for Starbucks iced white mochas- now I can make 'em myself. (You can even order the white mocha syrup on starbucks.com, which I did).
If you're new to the espresso machine like I was- at first it seems like it's a lot of work, but it gets easier to use over time.
A basic tip that is NOT in the instructions or ANY of the reviews I scoured through is... once you turn the knob on/ to the left to brew your espresso HOW DO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHEN TO TURN IT OFF? Because it is a "manual" machine, and if your water reservoir is full- the espresso liquid will continue to pour through until you turn the knob back to the right/ turn it off. For instance, if you're brewing the espresso straight into a regular coffee mug and not one of the little fancy demitasse mugs you'll still need to stop it before it fills up otherwise the espresso will not be very strong, etc. And then there's the peril of stopping it too soon.
So, I recommend... Read more

If you know what you are doing, that is, if you are not some beginner who assumes that the machine will do the work for you with little to no effort, you will be fine and LOVE this machine! I use a hand crank ceramic burr grinder for my espresso, avoid those horrible blade grinders, again, if you know what you are doing, you know the benefit, no, need for a perfectly ground bean to pull a perfect shot, hence, you will love this machine.

Take off the silly pannarello cover and boom, steam wand. If you know how to steam milk properly, this should not be a challenge for you. I looked EVERYwhere for the pannarello latte art style wand, assuming it was necessary to steam without the pannarello cover, but found on a single message board that they are the same, the latte art style is just longer, so I am all set now! For the portafilter, do not use more than ~14g otherwise you will have a hard time fitting the portafilter to the grouphead and you'll leak. When I seasoned my... Read more

This review is from: Gaggia 102534 Espresso-Color Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Red (Kitchen)
Disappointing lack of durability and performance. Purchased Gaggia Color last December (2013). By December 26, 2013 the portafilter ring needed to be replaced. The Gaggia Color has a poor design where there are shims inside the ring where the filter holder locks into place. The replacement had extra glue as if they were aware of the design issue.

The replacement lasted 10 months before it too began leaking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHC4plLbxd8&feature=youtu.be

Importika, the company that shipped the machine, has been great to work with, but replacing two rings in less than a year and having quality of espresso compromised is disappointing and not what I expected.

The espresso the machine makes was quite good. But this thing is not forgiving as far as tamp and grind. Yes; both are crucial to the performance; however, I am able still to make a very good espresso pull from a cheap Hamilton Beach pump machine that I purchased in 2004... Read more

This review is from: Gaggia 102534 Espresso-Color Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Red (Kitchen)
First, found out it was made in Romania and not Italy - kind of disappointing since a 15 year old Italian Gaggia I had lasted so long. Still, thought I should give it a chance...unboxed it and it's missing 2 parts - though likely an Amazon error as I did get a "used like new" from their warehouse deals (which was SUPPOSED to include all parts - NOT). They can't be blamed for the user manual, though, which has faulty english translation and it missing at least one integrally important diagram. Correct page numbers and bound like new, just badly written and missing information! Can't believe Gaggia didn't quality check something so basic. And yes, mine like others arrived with water and dampness which is not a grave concern but this missing parts infuriate me. Will update review if I keep this but already turned off that Gaggia has seemed to compromise on their quality of late.

This review is from: Cuisinart EM-200 Programmable 15-Bar Espresso Maker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This is one hell of a machine. It came perfectly packed to protect against any possible damage. I had it on my wish list for a while but couldn't make up my mind. It was selling for $199 but, when the price showed for $162 one day I knew that it would not stay for long. So I jumped at it.
My first brew was lousy, as I knew it would be. The first week wasn't all that great that at one point I almost made the mistake of sending it back. But I knew that I can't be like the guy trying to paint and blames the paint brush when he does a lousy job. So, by 10 days I was making cappuccino that would rival the best of them. And like my brother says, these machines work better after they've seasoned. Here I am 2 months later and I am quite happy with my purchase. So much so that each time I think of going out for breakfast and start thinking of the coffee I am going to get there I always without fail decide against it and stay home with my Cuisinart. Great machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great machine, here's my notes..., August 20, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart EM-200 Programmable 15-Bar Espresso Maker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I've had this machine now 4 months. I've had many machines before it, including the ever popular DeLonghi. This is an amazing machine, but there are a few things to know.

1. All espresso machines, and even some coffee machines, need to be primed. If there is water in the tank, yet it's not pumping but making noise, chances are you just need to prime it. Turn the steam knob just like in the manual, and if it fails, try again. You only have to do this when you first get the machine, or if you some how let it run dry.

2. The specs list this as not coming with a tamper, that's only partially correct. It comes with a plastic scoop / tamper combo thang. Before you get too annoyed with it, I recommend ordering "RSVP Terry's Tamper" (probably advertised on the same page). It's less than 7 bucks, and the small side fits this machines portafilter perfectly.

3. Some reviewers have knocked this machine because the "Filter keeps getting clogged". Here's a news... Read more

Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cuisinart EM-200 Programmable 15-Bar Espresso Maker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
it is the perfect maker for the home. I was a barista for 3 years and this machine definitely makes café` worthy cappuccinos, mocha etc.... I love it and it is worth the money. I was discouraged at first when I read some of the complaints but I had a gut feeling to just bite the bullet and try it on my own....obviously I am very happy with my purchase. I think the people who had complaints were expecting the machine to be more like a robot. Yes you have to wait about a minute for the steamer portion to warm up before you use it but that's nothing compare to the cheapo cappuccino machine I use to get. Same for the brewing portion, you press the on button wait about a minute and a half for it warm before you make your espresso shot(s). It's worth the money and I hope you will to. 🙂

5.0 out of 5 stars Style AND Substance - A GREAT Coffeemaker, April 3, 2007

This review is from: Mr. Coffee ECM21 4-Shot Espresso Machine and 8-Cup Coffeemaker Combo, Black (Kitchen)
I have had this machine since February and use it nearly every day. This is definitely one of the best coffeemakers I have ever owned, and I haven't had one single problem with it.

When I was deciding whether or not to buy it, some of the negative reviews had me a little skeptical. But I am SO glad that I took a chance. It was absolutely worth it for me.

I honestly don't see how some of the reviewers have had some of the problems that they have. Reviewer 'Joan of Arc' seemed to have quite a bit of leakage problems. It must have been a defective machine, because ours hasn't leaked one time -- not even a little drop. I'll go over a few of the issues she and some others had:

- The removable water reservoir (or "bucket" as she called it) for the coffeemaker is easy to remove and replace. If you don't want to take it out to fill it with water, just pour water into it. It is marked clearly and is easy to read even when stationed on the machine. No... Read more

This review is from: Mr. Coffee ECM21 4-Shot Espresso Machine and 8-Cup Coffeemaker Combo, Black (Kitchen)
I've mainly used this several times for making coffee as I'm unsure of how to make espresso (yet). I've noticed that the coffee tastes really good out of this unit, I know there's some that might say that it has a strange plastic taste to it I have not encountered that at all since owning this. Very easy to clean, very easy to get it up and running right out of the box.

I do have to say the instruction manual if you need it might seem a little ambiguous with a couple of the instructions, just takes a little bit of thinking to understand some of the operations of it. I would highly recommend that you pay special attention to the instructions on making espresso if you haven't done so before as you can quickly burn yourself if you try to clean the espresso portion of the machine immediately after making espresso. Let the espresso steam dissipate for a good while before trying to clean up on it to avoid any inadvertent steam discharges that might burn you.

This review is from: Mr. Coffee ECM21 4-Shot Espresso Machine and 8-Cup Coffeemaker Combo, Black (Kitchen)
This machine takes a little bit of practice to get down the operations (honestly, after one use of trial & error....I "got it")....I had to figure out that there are TWO SEPERATE power switches...I was brewing water (haha) AND espresso and didn't know what I was doing wrong....but I figured it out. And YES, I read the instructions! 🙂 Still a little complicated...but not bad. Like I said, I figured it out after one usage. The frother works GREAT-the coffee brews a little slow, but if that's what it take to make good coffee, then you aren't going to hear a complaint from me. Also...it's well-built and fun to use. 🙂 In other words...It's STAYING AT MY HOUSE! ;-D

5.0 out of 5 stars "A refreshingly strong cup for a strong price", June 18, 2014

I hate weak coffee.

In fact, I hate it so much that most K-cup brands I've tried taste like I'm drinking colored water. Fortunately, that's not the case with Timothy's Rainforest Espresso, here's why.

Sure, I could go to the local grocery store after working 16 hours and spend upwards of $10 for a small box of K-Cups, or I can order them during my lunch break from the Amazon app on my phone and have them delivered directly to my door- and with Amazon Prime, I pay nothing for shipping and it's there in two days.

Timothy's Rainforest Espresso K-Cup provided a rich, and earthy flavor that was so fresh it would tickle my sinuses. As a man who works two jobs in order to pay the bills for my family, I need a coffee that has the punch to get me up in the morning, and keep me moving through the day without making me jittery or sick. Also, since I'm pinching pennies to make ends meet, the price can't be beat.

I would highly recommend you pick up... Read more

Read several reviews about this coffee. Let me first say it is coffee and not Espresso. It has a hint of Espresso flavor. It is a very dark roast bold flavor which is what I wanted. Read through all the reviews about the K-Cups blowing out and malfunctioning. I had this trouble with some other kinds. The reviewer stated they shook the K-Cup first before using it. Guess what? IT WORKS!!!!!!!!! No blowouts. Perfect cup every time. If you want pretty packaging then go to the store and spend more. Comes in a basic cardboard box filled to the brim with K-Cups. Opened the box (Which UPS smashed the hell out of) to double check the contents. All were fine and in fact there were 53 K-Cups instead of 50. Nice little bonus.

I would recommend this coffee to anyone who wants a bold dark roast coffee.

5.0 out of 5 stars For my hardcore strong & bold black coffee drinker - this is his favorite!!!!, July 11, 2011

This review is from: Timothy's World Coffee, Rainforest Espresso K-Cup Portion Pack for Keurig K-Cup Brewers (Pack of 50) (Grocery)
My husband likes his coffee strong, bold, smooth and black. We've had had Keurig coffee brewing machines for the last three years, and have tried many, many bold coffees. Until we found the Rainforest Espresso (which I find using the espresso name strange for just a cup of self brewed coffee), he was not in love with his cup of coffee. The moment I served the very first cup of the Rainforest - his eyes lit up and I could tell he was pleasantly satisfied. It is the only type I'll buy for him - he won't go back.

I don't like my coffee that strong, and I can hardly even breathe in the odor of his just brewed cup - it is far too overpowering! But to each his own.

Do I think this clogs my machine? I really cannot be sure. We do the routine maintenance on our Keuring, including cleaning the metal spiked piercer with a toothpick. Since we've done that, we've had far less problems with the clogging and grounds. I truly believe that is a Keuring issue, not a... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A Proven Performer For Over 8 Years!, June 12, 2016

This review is from: DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super-Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
My absolute love of the Delonghi Maginfica ESAM3300 is hard to describe. It has been a faithful crema steeped friend and morning ritual for at least 8 years, and the current unit I bought as a replacement last week (another ESAM3300) is a testament to why I give this well built Italian Stallion "super automatic" espresso dream machine a SOLID 5 star rating.

Yes - my old unit finally gave out it seems. But 8 years of duty + the fact that I am ordering the exact same model should provide a clue as to the reliability and proven quality engineering of this model. Yes there are many newer models - but for this price point, the ESAM3300 is a champ all the way.

Bottom line: with very few adjustments and some good Italian or locally roasted whole beans, the Magnifica consistently puts out shot after shot of delicious espresso that will FAR exceed anything you could get at most coffee shops. I always used many of the yummy Lavazza beans including the "Super... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Well-designed and makes great Americano, December 10, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super-Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
A terrific machine-- nearly five stars, but has a few relatively minor drawbacks (see below)
PROS:
Makes perfect espresso and Americano (the only reason for buying an elaborate machine like this)
Ability to make a double cup with just one touch of a button
Relatively quiet operation (compared to prior machine)
Compact, attractive styling
Balance of water and grounds is infinitely variable, as both are controlled independently by knobs
Easy to clean and de-scale

CONS: Smallish water reservoir, needs refilling often if you drink Americano rather than espresso
Grounds bin is lightweight plastic and has tabs that stick out around the edges. They could easily be broken off, an invitation to future annoyance, as the tabs are clearly there to perform some crucial function.

Great little investment if you enjoy good espresso frequently at home. This machine paid for itself already compared to buying at Starbucks everyday. I never thought I'd prefer my own homemade coffee beverages over the big chain either... but now I do! So not only am I saving money but they taste better too! No complaints about this espresso maker,, it puts out 16-24 beautiful and delicious shots a day between my husband and I without a problem. My friends love coming for coffee too! Lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, americanos, macchiatos, frappucinos, iced, you name it I've made it. Simple as can be to use and operate as well. We're very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.
